What is the deal with XYZ?

XYZ in the 3D printing community is often used to indicate the three dimensions in space. X is usually the width, Y is the length and Z is the depth of an object.

How do you make a 3D Print?

All prints start out with a 3D print file. These files are the instructions that tell the 3D printer where to place little drops or lines of molten plastic. The plastic cools into a solid and as more layers of plastic are added a 3D object is formed. It's magic really.

How do you make 3D print files?

To make a 3D print file you need to use a computer program that lets you make 3D designs. These programs are called "Computer-Aided Design" programs and are more commonly called, "CAD". There are a number of great, easy-to-learn and free CAD programs available. Our favorites are Tinkercad, SketchUp and Solidworks Apps for Kids. Remember Brian Builds XYZ can also help you make your 3D print files.

Where can I find 3D print files?

There are a number of free and paid resources for 3D print files. Thingiverse is our favorite place to find and download 3D print files. There are thousands of them to browse through and try! You can also download these files and then customize them in a CAD program. Download STL, OBJ or SVG files and use those files in your CAD program. You can also send 3D print files to Brian Builds XYZ and we will customize and print them for you!

Can you print me a weapon?

Absolutely not! This is a weapon free site. We promote anti-violence at Brian Builds XYZ.

How do I buy something from you?

Brian Builds XYZ is not a traditional store.  If you want to buy a 3D print you must send us a request. We will review your request and send you an estimate for how much the print will cost. If you agree to our estimate, we will make you a print! (But we won't give it to you unless you hand over the money - which you will do right?)

How much does it cost for a 3D print?

It depends! It could be as low as $2 or much higher. Things that affect the price include: size of the print, quantity of prints, complexity (how long takes to print) and material (fancy colors = fancy prices).  A rough estimate for a small, 2-inch Picachu toy would cost about $4. Our pricing is negotiable, we will only charge you what you agree to pay.

What colors can you print?

Brian Builds XYZ can make 3D prints in almost any color! We even have gold and silver! Special colors may be more expensive, we'll let you know. Multi-color prints may not be feasible as we can only print in one color at a time. We can always print in white allowing the option to paint your 3D print.

Can you print me a giant, 10-foot robot?

Possibly, but it will cost you. The 3D printer at Brian Builds XYZ allows for prints up to 210mm in any direction. For larger prints we can break up the 3D model into multiple parts and combine them post-print.  This is also how we print parts that move. Please note that we do not build or print motors or computer circuits. If you want to print a walking, talking robot you would have to provide the motors, computers and other robot organs.
